I cannot download a file and save it to my disk. How can I save the file?

When you download a file from BT.com the File Download dialog box appears. You then choose to save the file to disk. One of the following error messages is immediately displayed:

  • The file could not be written to the cache.
  • Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later.

Recommended actions:

  1. Clear the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" option.
  2. Attempt to download the file again and save it to your disk.
  3. If this fails then you must upgrade to Internet Explorer 6.
  4. Open the new version of Internet Explorer and check that the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" option is cleared.

You should now be able to download and save files without incident. Microsoft article 281119 and Microsoft article 238588 explain this issue in further detail.

Why am I unable to download my calls?

Research has told us that problems downloading call information for customers using Internet Explorer is due to the security settings.

To update your security settings, open your browser and follow these instructions:

  1. Ensure you only have one browser open. You do not have to dial up to your ISP to do this.
  2. Go to the menu options above, such as 'File', 'Edit' and 'View'. Draw down the menu from 'Tools' and click on 'Internet Options'.
  3. A Dialogue box will appear with six tabs across the top. The sixth is named 'Advanced'. Click this one.
  4. Scroll down the panel until you reach the section headed 'Security'.
  5. Unclick the box described as 'Do not save encrypted pages to disk' so a check mark no longer appears alongside it.
  6. Click the 'OK' button at the bottom of the dialogue box.
  7. Close the browser. After downloading and saving you can re-instate the option in number 5 above 'Do not save encrypted pages to disk'.
