1. What is BT Privacy at Home?
BT Privacy at Home gives you FREE Caller Display so long as you continue to make some calls with BT. For more details, click 'Caller Display' in the search box above.

You can also ask BT to register you with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) which cut the number of unsolicited phone calls you receive. For more details, click 'Telephone Preference Service' in the search box above.

Of course, we'd like you to give your consent for BT to contact you after registration with news of genuine savings and improvements to our services.
2. Why is BT introducing BT Privacy at Home?
Extensive market research shows customers want greater control over the calls they receive. Caller Display helps do just that, whilst registering with TPS reduces unsolicited marketing and sales calls.
3. When is it available?
From 1 July 2005.
4. How much does Caller Display usually cost?
£5.25 per quarter, including VAT.
5. How can I get BT Privacy at Home?
You can sign up for BT Privacy at Home online. If you don't know your BT account number, you can order BT Privacy at Home by dialling 0800 916 5544 (available 24 hours a day).
6. I'm already signed up for Caller Display. Can I get BT Privacy at Home?
Yes, all existing customers can take up BT Privacy at Home. You just need to continue to make some calls with BT.
7. I'm already paying for Caller Display, what happens when I take up BT Privacy at Home?
You will no longer pay for Caller Display if you continue to make some calls with BT.

If you are renting Caller Display as part of the BT Calling Features packs, any change to your rental charges will be adjusted automatically. You may, of course, want to replace Caller Display with another feature from the range of services available. You can do this when you sign up for BT Privacy at Home online.
8. As an existing Caller Display customer, why didn't you automatically tell me about BT Privacy at Home?
We are promoting BT Privacy at Home from 1 July 2005, using a wide variety of media. It will also be included in Update, which is sent to our Consumer customers with their BT bill.
9. I'm a customer who can choose which call provider* to use when making a call from home. Can I get BT Privacy at Home?
Yes, you can. You just need to continue to make some calls with BT.

You can do this by putting the digits 1280 immediately before the full number to be dialled. The subsequent call will then be charged, at appropriate BT rates, once you are connected.

*This refers to CPS customers. CPS is a service which enables BT customers to choose to send some or all of their calls over the network of a different telephone company, which then bills the customer for them separately from the line rental, which is still paid to BT. The system reprograms the BT exchange to divert the relevant calls, thus avoiding the need to dial a prefix or to install an autodialler.
10. I'm a customer who can choose which call provider* to use when making a call from home. How can I ensure that I make some calls with BT?
Just enter the digits 1280 immediately before the full number to be dialled. Once connected, you will be charged at the appropriate BT rate for that call.

Business customers may be interested in an associated service to TPS called CTPS (Corporate TPS). Further information can be found online at www.tpsonline.org.uk.
16. What happens if I move home and change my number?
Provided you are still a BT customer, you can take up the offer again and apply for Caller Display and Telephone Preference Service (TPS). TPS always applies to the telephone number that has been registered.
BT residential customers making calls on the BT network can opt in to receive BT Privacy at Home, FREE. Caller Display equipment required. Allow 28 days for activation of Telephone Preference Service.

Caller Display requires a compatible phone which can be ordered from BT Shop. Numbers will not be displayed if the call is from payphones, some switchboards, non-BT networks or where a caller's number is withheld.
