With instant messaging (also known as 'chatting'), you can see when your friends and family are online and exchange messages with them in real time - useful when you don't want to wait for a reply to an email.
All you do is type your message using Yahoo! Messenger. Your recipient can reply instantly if online. If you want to see and hear who you're chatting with, you can use a webcam with a headset or a microphone with speakers.
